Interpreter Coordinator for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Job Purpose: Provides/coordinates sign language interpreting services, manages interpreting contracts, supervises independent contract interpreters, and other tasks related to the development and delivery of the interpreting services department.

Essential Duties

  • Essential Duties #1: Coordinates ASL interpreting services and the supervision of independent interpreting contractors in which you will help network, recruit, interview for, and train as deemed necessary.
  • Essential Duties #2: Review forms and reports, and confer with management and users about formal, distribution, purpose, and to identify problems or improvements.
  • Essential Duties #3: Responsible for networking and managing/securing interpreting service contracts and responsible for completing quality insurance on interpreting services provided via confirmations and follow-ups.
  • Essential Duties #4: Maintain and demonstrate a positive, professional attitude at the workplace and while representing the organization in the general public
  • Essential Duties #5: Must maintain strictest confidentiality of information relating to consumer issues and/or assignments.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Attend and participate in staff meetings as well as community committees and councils

Maintain appropriate documentation and calendar of all interpreting assignments.

Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Education, Experience, Certification and Licensures

  • BA degree or AA/AS degree and equivalent work experience.
  • Possess and maintain valid Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or a Level IV Certificate from the National Associate of the Deaf (NAD)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of two years of interpreting related work.
  • Knowledge of NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
  • Demonstrate ability to be self-motivated
  • Ability to work with a variety of consumers and professional groups
  • Basic knowledge of the independent living philosophy, movement, disability culture and disability related issues.
  • Ability to multitask; interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to work any area of the restaurant when needed and to operate a computerized Point of Sale system/cash register. Position requires bending, standing, and walking the entire workday. Must have the ability to lift 10 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
